Changes in format for the 2020 Copa del Rey

Valencia CF begin their defence of the Copa del Rey against Segunda B side UD Logroñés on Wednesday night, as the competition undergoes an overhaul for 2020. A total of 116 clubs will participate in this year's tournament, with the four entrants into the Spanish Supercopa joining at the Round of 32 stage.
Single-game ties until the semifinals
One of the big changes from past years is the format of the fixtures, which will be played over a single leg at the home of the team in the lower division.
Should two teams from the same division be drawn against one another, the side picked first in the draw will play at home. The Spanish Supercopa participants will enter the competition at the Round of 32 stage.
Valencia CF to wear a shirt commemorating their 2019 triumph
For the first time in the history of the Copa del Rey, the previous year's winners will wear a special badge acknowledging their achievement on the front of their shirts.
Competition dates:
Round of 32: January 22nd 2020.
Round of 16: January 29th 2020.
Quarter finals: February 5th 2020.
Semifinals: February 12th 2020 and March 4th 2020.
Final: April 18th 2020.
Rights earned by winning the Copa del Rey
The winners of the Copa del Rey will have the right to enter the UEFA Europa League, as well as participatig in the Spanish Supercopa.
A fourth substitution in extra time
Teams will be able to make a fourth substitution in the event of extra time -but only in this period of play.
The UEFA EURO 2020 ball
The tournament will be played with the same ball that will be used in UEFA EURO 2020 in the summer. The 'Uniforia' ball has a design representing the international competition, which will take place in various countries.
